Air purifiers trap pollen, pet hair and mold spores so they don’t circulate in the air and aggravate symptoms. Research shows they can ease hay fever symptoms, like sneezing and irritable eyes. They’re not a cure for asthma or your allergies however. Vortex Air purifiers use high efficiency HEPA filters that remove up to 99.97 % of particles down to 0.3 microns. For best results, combine purification with regular cleaning and proper ventilation.
Most HEPA filters need replacing around every 6–12 months, depending on how often you use the purifier and how polluted your home is. Some of our new models have long-life filters that last around five years. Signs that it’s time to change the filter include worsening allergy or asthma symptoms, weaker airflow, lingering smells and more dust than usual. If your purifier gets noisier or starts rattling, the filter may be clogged. Vortex Air units include filter-change alerts to make this easy.
Not as much as your allergies i'm sure. Noise is measured in decibels (dB). A very quiet air purifier runs at around 15 dB, and a good unit on low is about 32 dB. Normal conversation is roughly 60 dB. Vortex Air purifiers also have sleep modes and low-speed settings that keep sound closer to a “rustling of leaves” type noise (soft). If you notice your purifier getting louder than usual, it may be time to replace the filter.
Vortex Air purifiers don’t generate ozone. Our purifers rely on HEPA and activated carbon filters to remove particles and odours safely. Ozone at ground level is a pollutant that can irritate the lungs, especially for people with asthma. Some air cleaners marketed as “ozone generators” release ozone as part of their operation.
When shopping for any brand, our advice would be to avoid units labelled as ozone generators and look for certification that they meet strict emission standards.
Experts say running a purifier continuously keeps pollutants low. This will help relief your allergies. A typical 50-watt purifier costs about 29p per day on the standard UK electricity tariff, or around £8.70 per month. Many models draw as little as 2–20 W on low settings. If you prefer not to run it 24/7, using your purifier for 8–12 hours a day still helps maintain cleaner air in smaller rooms.
