5 Interior Design Tips to Instantly Elevate Your Space (Without Redecorating Everything)

I used to scroll Pinterest and think, “How do people make their homes look that good?” I didn’t have the time (or budget) to redecorate from scratch — but I still wanted that put-together feeling.
So I started researching small design tweaks that make a big impact. I tested them in my own space, and these are 5 of the best tips that totally changed how my home looks and feels — without a single wall getting painted.
Tip 1: Use Repetition to Create Flow
Repeating materials, colors, or shapes (wood tones, round elements, or gold accents) throughout a room makes it feel intentional..

Tip 2: Raise Your Curtains and Use Vertical Lines
Mount your curtain rods higher than the window frame to create the illusion of height. And choose items (like plants, standing mirrors, or tall fans) that draw the eye upward.

Tip 3: Choose a Functional Statement Piece That Complements Your Colour Scheme
Every room should have one thing that catches the eye — but doesn’t fight the rest of the space. A bold artwork, sculptural lamp, or… in my case, the Vortex Air Pro fan.
I know — a fan. But this one is different. It comes in 12 colours, has a bladeless sculptural shape, and actually blends in beautifully while still being the kind of thing people ask about.
I picked the black and red model to match the lead strips on my window and dark red wood tones, and I use it daily — not just for cooling, but to give the room that “interior-designed” feel.
It’s probably the most unexpectedly aesthetic appliance I’ve ever owned.

Tip 4: Stick to 3 Dominant Colours Per Room
Too many colours = visual chaos. Choose a base colour, an accent, and a third “personality” shade (like a pop of green or blush). Make sure large items (like fans or lamps) tie into this palette — that’s how the room starts to feel pulled together.
Tip 5: Add Texture, Not Just Colour
Rooms often feel flat because everything is smooth — walls, furniture, flooring. Try layering textures: linen throws, boucle chairs, matte vs gloss finishes. Even your accessories (yes, like a bladeless fan!) can contribute to the room’s visual richness.

These five tips helped me turn my home from “it’s fine” to “wait… did you hire a designer?”
